Thoughts on the Inauguration of Hussein

Yes, I’ve chosen to refer to our new president by his middle name, as the leftists used to refer to George W Bush as “Dubya”. Fitting, don’t you think?

I have lots of thoughts, but will limit them in the interest of civility. Speaking of which, I must have heard at least a thousand times in the past week that, “It’s time to be civil, to be unified, to come together as a country behind our new president.” And the people saying it the loudest are the ones who have viciously, endlessly, ceaselessly vilified President Bush since Day One of his inauguration. They are the ones who have tried to impeach him from Day One. They are the ones who have written fantasies of killing him. They are the ones who tried to sully his reputation in protecting our country by equating him with leaders like Hitler, accusing him of being a fascist and stripping away our rights. They inhabit blogs like the Huffington Post and Daily Koz. You know who you are. And first and foremost, you’re hypocrites to now call for “civility” and “unity.” When pigs fly.

As for the ceremony itself, I thought Hussein’s speech said precisely nothing about nothing for 25 minutes. And he’s the best person I’ve ever heard at doing that! No doubt his elite Hollywood friends (who arrived on hundreds of private jets) have given him good acting lessons. As for Elizabeth Alexander’s inauguration day poem, “Praise Song for the Day”, I thought it sounded like she was reading from the phone book–or not. And as for the good Rev. Joseph Lowery’s benediction prayer which included the line, “and when white will embrace what is right,” I thought it fitting that a racist spewing racist comments capped off the “stick it to you” tone of the day. I’m sure glad that Hussein is the post-racial president and this election wasn’t about race, aren’t you?

“Well Jim, you seem a bit hostile today about the whole thing.” Yes, I have to admit I am grumpy. Grumpy that our great country and (at least some of) it’s great people are heading right down the ole toilet and Hussein is the riverboat captain who’s taking us there. Socialism never works. It didn’t work when FDR tried it. It didn’t work when Jimmy Carter tried it. It hasn’t worked in countless other countries, and it won’t work here. We’re about to embark on a voyage down to depths we haven’t visited in a long time, and I’m not looking forward to the ride.

Welcome to the Obamanation.

    Jim,

I am a democratic reader of your blog who tends to keep an open issue on a lot of things you say or republican’s vote on. I guess I consider myself democratic because I agree about 51/49 with the democratic side but really I am in the middle.

I’d just be careful when you clump democratics into one big pool by saying “hey are the ones who have written fantasies of killing him. They are the ones who tried to sully his reputation in protecting our country by equating him with leaders like Hitler.”

I know a lot of civil democrats and republicans who would disagree with you on this claim. I for one would never compare a president of my country (who I did not vote for, but fully support since he represents me) to Hitler. Furthermore, aren’t you comparing our President to a common enemy as well by calling him “Hussein”?

I am a reader of your blog and appreciate the civil conversation you have in it. Truthfully Jim these “opinions” you have had lately are making you look bad. Where is the old Jim who had facts to back up and less political bashing. Man, I miss that blog.
