Nice try Joey, but your logic fails. All of our Constitution and system of laws are grounded in, founded in, the Judeo-Christian ideology. A common misconception (due to poor history lessons in our schools) is that the founding fathers wanted to keep religion and state separated. What they wanted, and stated they wanted to do, is to keep the government (the state) from overriding religion, from establishing a state-run religion as had been the case in England and other countries. They were all FOR religion informing, influencing and otherwise aiding the government! Read the founding fathers and the original papers (like The Federalist Papers). You'll find that they created a democratic republic on the basis that its people are good, that religion is a restraint on people's behavior, and because of that, men (and women) would behave civilly toward each other. The founders were deeply religious--Christian to be specific--and that influenced their every thought and action.

So, nice try, but back to the books for Joey. :)

If marriage is something governed by law, you can't use a judeo-christian ideology to justify any aspect of it. You know, that whole separation of church and state thing.

Excellent commentary Jim. I would add that the "equal rights" are not held by the LGBTQ, but that they infact have the "greater privilege" in Binghamton's current administration. Want to test it out? Let's see if we can get Mayor Ryan to participate (let alone raise the flag) in the National Day of Prayer or Sanctity of Life Sunday, especially on government grounds. I haven't tried it, but I'd be willing to bet that it wouldn't even be dignified with a reply from the mayor's office.

I rest my case... for now.
