Locate Sex Offenders in Your Neighborhood

The REAL nightmare this Halloween may not be on a television or movie screen, but right down the street. Tony Russell (local talk radio host), Anthony Massar (Binghamton City Council member) and others in our area have been warning us for some time about the dangers of sex offenders in the Greater Binghamton area. Heed their warnings! I’ve done a quick study of the numbers, and it’s frightening. In Broome County the New York State Division of Criminal Justice reports there are 376 Level 2 and Level 3 offenders. Yikes! Level 2 is classified as a “moderate risk” for re-offending, and Level 3 is classified as a “high risk” for re-offending. New York does not release details for Level 1, which is classified as “low risk” for re-offending.

One of the best defenses you have is information. Find out if there are offenders living around you, look at their pictures, show their pictures to your kids, and instruct your kids to run like crazy if they ever see them. These “humans” are pariahs and not fit to remain in normal society. Avoid them and especially tell your kids to avoid them.

The best site I’ve seen for locating sex offenders is FamilyWatchdog.us. When you plug in “Binghamton, NY” you get the map below. Although the map below is not interactive, if you go to their website and plug in your own specific address, the resulting map will be interactive, allowing you to click on the little icons. They will show you the name, address, and any information available from the state registry. Many include pictures of the scumbags too. So your homework is to go to www.familywatchdog.us and type in your address and find out just who around you needs to be avoided like the plague.

    Jim:

Thanks very much for this very informative piece. The frightening part is that I recognized someone who has walked my street. Next time I see him, I won’t be cordial for certain. We also need to remind people that the Democratic controlled NYS Legislature is extremely lax on sex offenders, and has done little if nothing to protect our children. Great work.
