Liberalism - Slow Road to Despotism (and Coming Fast to Greater Binghamton)

More lefty loony editorials are printed in the Press & Sun-Bulletin than I can keep up with! Here’s one from Friday, March 21st: U.S. needs a labor party. Please read it by clicking the link.
It essentially says big government programs like socialized medicine are not “extreme” and since the Democrat Party is not “man enough” to go 100% socialist, the lefty loonies in this country ought to start a Labor Party where they can exercise power.
Where do I start? You’ll notice my response in the comments section, reprinted here:
Socialism/big governmentism has successfully jumped from the empty heads of our university students to ever-increasing segments of the population. Wake up! Do for yourself! The government is NOT the answer to everything, as the Founders of our country knew full well. More government control = less individual liberties which eventually yields despotism. Buy yourself a copy of Liberal Fascism (by Jonah Goldberg) at Sam’s Club and teach yourself a bit of history so you don’t repeat it. And quit expecting ME to pay for you.
We’re surrounded by socialists! Wake up people!!

The strong winds of socailism are blowing locally and nationally. They (Obama and Clinton for example) effectively capitalize off of fear; ala Marx and class warfare; ala Hitler. The irony of it all is that Socialism is about one step away from Fascism. These people want to tell us (control) what a “typical person” is. Tragically America is too ignorant to see it for what it really is. The liberals have us looking for racists under the bed. When this is a classic bait and switch game played by classic Leninists. If we are lucky their party will implode (as it has done in the past). And we can continue to limp along with the likes of MCcain. WHB

Spot on WHB (as my British friends say). If you read the comments on the original P&SB article you’ll see more than one person making the defense that socialized medicine, et al is not socialism! Here’s a quote from one of them, “Let us get this straight. Socialism is not the same as universal public school education or universal health care.”
Excuse me–it IS the same thing and has been since it was started a generation ago! Universal anything means you take money from some people, forcibly, and give it to others. It’s immoral, wrong, and socialist. When individual liberties go bye bye, it moves from socialism to fascism. You’re right…the difference between the two is very thin indeed.
