John McCain, Global Warming and Dissent

Dissent QuoteI haven’t had much to say on the presidential race recently because there’s not much to say. Except I remain extremely disappointed in the Republican party’s selection of a moderate–John McCain. No, he’s not conservative no matter how loudly you protest. Would he be better than Obama or the Hillary? Sure. Somewhat. Will I vote for him? Probably, with nose plugs on.

I’ve listed my differences with the “straight talking” (i.e. shoot your own party) Senator before, so I won’t list them here again. I will, however, point you to an excellent post on The American Thinker blog which talks about McCain’s support for the global warming hoax. The article is authored by Jeffrey Schmidt (Another Unconservative Moment from John McCain), and it contains the following paragraph which perfectly captures my own feelings:

The Senator’s stand on global warming is a real test of conservative judgment and maturity. Support for McCain is best qualified. The qualification, which is taking on more currency lately, is that when the Arizonan is right, he merits support. When he’s wrong, conservatives need to dissent–loudly. If elected president, then McCain will need to be opposed by conservatives when he pursues initiatives that are decidedly unconservative.

Well said Mr. Schmidt, well said. If McCain is elected (which would be a minor miracle), we will need to be as vigilant with him as with either of the alternatives. I have a feeling conservatives are in for a long–and LOUD–four years ahead.
