Eliot Spitzer, Prostitutes and Kindergarten

Eliot Spitzer, New York GovernorBy now you will no doubt have heard about our esteemed Governor, Eliot Spitzer and his alleged dalliances with high priced prostitutes. (I call Gov. Spitzer “The Don” because of his mafia-like arrogance and king-sized ego.) It seems Mr. Spitzer has been caught on tape arranging for the services of a prostitute to visit with him in a Washington, D.C. hotel. We are now, as of 7 pm Monday night, in the midst of a media feeding frenzy around this story. I’m sure more details will be forthcoming. There’s a good chance Spitzer will resign as he has also been, allegedly, indicted by a New York court. I suspect he will indeed resign.

I take no pleasure in seeing the Spitzer family suffer greatly as they surely are right now. But I take no pity on Spitzer himself. He is an egomaniacal socialist whose policies will ruin this state. His actions have revealed an incredible arrogance, indicating he believed himself untouchable. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

A quick review: Spitzer tried to grant illegal aliens driver’s licenses so they could more easily vote (Democrat). He’s trying to tax Internet purchases by New Yorkers–the only people in the country for which this would be the case. He’s trying to shut down nuclear plants that provide 25% of New York City’s electricity. He wants to extend health care coverage to the middle class–socializing health care in New York. He presides over the largest Medicaid budget in the 50 states–and wants to expand it more. The man’s socialist insanity knows no bounds.

If he resigns tonight–good riddance. I know nothing about the Lieutenant Governor, David Paterson, but I doubt he can do worse than Spitzer. The official website says he is blind, he was the first African American to serve as the minority leader of the New York State Senate, and is an adjunct professor at Columbia University. I have a feeling we’ll be getting to know a lot more about Mr. Paterson in the coming days.

The point of this post is not to “pile on” Spitzer or rejoice in his undoing–as fun as that may be. The purpose is to point out how liberals are reacting to the story. Here’s a typical reaction, and not at all unsurprising, posted on the Daily Kos website (a well-known bastion of far-left discourse):

At $5500/hour, the Emperor’s Club prostitutes cost Spitzer approximately the same as Rudy’s security detail cost the taxpayers of NYC every time that Rudy went to the Hamptons on a tryst with Judy.

Isn’t that sad and pathetic? Liberals are so predictable. As predictable as children. How many times have you heard this very line of defense from the mouth of a child? You catch a child red-handed doing something wrong, and the first thing from their mouth is, “But my brother/sister/friend/enemy has done the same thing–or something worse!” They quickly try to shift the blame to someone else. Come on Kos. This kindergarten response is unworthy of the superior brainpower of the left, don’t you think? ;-)

So dear reader, as you watch and listen to the mainstream media (MSM) cover this story over the next few days, see how many times this leftist kindergarten-like defense is offered to excuse the inexcusable. Liberals. So predictable.

UPDATE–March 11: No resignation last night…the watching and waiting continues. In the meantime, for examples of Spitzer’s mafia Don-like behavior, see Michelle Malkin’s post which contains an excerpt from the Wall Street Journal recounting just some of his abuses of power (scroll to the bottom of the post).

Let’s not leave out Client 9’s other accomplishments:

Spitzer has not only tried to legalize same-sex marriage in NYS, but he also tries to shut down pro-life crisis pregnancy centers aggressively.

In 2002, Spitzer’s office issued subpoenas to 24 non-profit crisis pregnancy centers that sought to dissuade women from having abortions.

Pro-life groups criticized Spitzer, charging that he was harassing the centers on behalf of a political ally, NARAL Pro-Choice America. Spitzer’s office contended that the centers used deceptive advertising and were practicing medicine without a license. However, the subpoenas were subsequently withdrawn.

The Fix is in however — and Spitzer willcop a deal and talk his way out of charges, as long as he’s outta town before the sun goes down.

Welcome to NYS, the best politico’s money can buy

Excellent points Al! Thanks for adding that. You’re right…Spitzer has arrogantly opposed many good organizations and people for years as Attorney General (and now as Governor). I call him “The Don” because of his sleazy tactics as AG: Pick out a large corporation with lots of money, threaten them, they pay the state, and it all goes away and nothing else is said. In my book that’s called “a shakedown” and Spitzer was the master of it.

I’m with you–get him out of there asap. You may be right about The Fix being in, but I don’t see how he will avoid at least getting disbarred, at a minimum. Hey, his daddy’s a what, billionaire? Why doesn’t Eliot pay the state $100M or so and we’ll call it even. What’s fair is fair, right? ;)

    Thanks for commenting Al!
