Dr. Laurence Spraggs Disappointingly Signs Presidential Climate Agreement

I once had a high opinion of Dr. Laurence Spraggs (pictured right), President of Broome Community College (BCC). He had the temerity to oppose Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala’s plan to use the tobacco shakedown money the feds stole from legitimate businesses and are sending our way to re-outfit the worn-out Harvey Justice building in downtown Binghamton. Dr. Spraggs wanted to use some, or all, of that money to build a new communications center and program on the BCC campus. His plan was much more forward-thinking than padding the pockets of Fiala’s union cronies the way she’s tried to do (who just happen to make donations to her campaign fund). It’s no secret the encounter with Fiala has Spraggs looking elsewhere for a new job.
However, my opinion of Dr. Spraggs has considerably diminished. He is one of 500 college presidents who signed something called “The Presidential Climate Agreement.” This is a group of college presidents who think they can actually “save the environment” by doing things like swapping Styrofoam cups in the cafeteria for paper cups. No lie! Here’s a quote from Spraggs:
“Some examples we’re looking at include purchasing bio-degradable materials to eliminate Styrofoam from our cafeterias,” continued Dr. Spraggs. “Many of our older buildings have windows with single pane glass, which are not energy efficient. We will also attempt to have all new buildings be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified.” (WBNG-TV website)
I’m all for energy efficiency–to save money–but not because it will “save the planet.” I have a hard time thinking someone as smart as Spraggs really falls for the man-is-causing-global-warming lie. More likely he thinks it will enhance his resume as this kind of weak thinking permeates college campuses across our country, and future employers would look kindly at his “leadership” on this issue.
What is all the global warming hullabaloo really about? Two things: First, it’s a money Ponzi scheme. People like Al Gore try to shame businesses (and colleges) into purchasing “carbon credits” on the stupid theory that someone using less carbon dioxide–a naturally occurring gas that you exhale every time you breathe–will mean someone else can use more of it, and it will balance out. This is a complete and utter sham, a swindle, perpetrated by people like Gore who are profitting from it (he’s invested in the companies who sell these so-called carbon credits).
Second, it’s about stripping you of your personal freedoms. It is anti-free market, anti-capitalist, or communistic. It’s no fluke that Mikhail Gorbachev, former leader of the Soviet Union and still a staunch communist, is a big supporter and member of the environmentalist movement. America’s liberals/socialists love telling you how you can live your life. They’re going to use “climate change” (once called global warming but since that isn’t true, they’ve had to change labels), to try and control free enterprise and limit Americans’ personal freedoms. They are attempting the greatest damage to the American way of life ever perpetrated aside from flat out war against our country. Trouble is, there are so many Americans who are ignorant of history and the preciousness our freedoms, and who believe the climate change lie, that socialists like Gore may actually succeed. I pray not.
Shame on Spraggs for signing such a patently stupid initiative for political or personal expediency. I thought he was better than that. Guess I was wrong.
